Fear of the street is not cured by hunger. All about dogs on!
It happens that a dog is panicky afraid of the street and flatly refuses to walk. And the first advice that not very competent dog handlers give is to feed the pet only on the street in order to “motivate” you not to be afraid. But this advice is totally unacceptable.
The fact is that fear for a loving creature is stronger than hunger. You will not enjoy even the most sophisticated dish if bombs explode around. And the dog, in the view of which the street is full of dangers, usually flatly refuses to take goodies, even the most beloved ones.
Some owners starve their “four-legged friend” for several days, and as a result, the dog may convulsively grab food in order to survive - but this does not affect its attitude to the street.
In addition, depriving a dog of food is possible only if a hungry diet is recommended by a veterinarian for some kind of disease. In all other cases, the dog should receive a normal meal every day, regardless of the behavior of the pet and your mood. This is the basis of the well-being of any animal.
Of course, street fear is not normal. And you definitely need to work with this. But not by deprivation of food, but by other means, using acceptable reinforcement. As a rule, reinforcement in this case is movement (3-4 steps) towards the house. However, this reinforcement must be applied on time. If you are not sure that you can handle it, you should contact a specialist who will not advise you to deprive your dog of food “until it grows wiser”.
But goodies are still worth taking to the street. Because the moment when the dog agrees to take a tasty piece from you (but not because she has not eaten for two weeks!) Will testify that she feels much calmer, in any case, is not so afraid. So, you are moving in the right direction.
